This tent is amazing

I've just read all the other reviews here and I just don't get it. I purchased this tent in summer of '10. Anyone who camps knows the first thing you need to do is put some Camp Dry on your tent. We set the tent up and put Camp Dry on it. The next night we got hit with what felt like a monsoon. It was literally 24 straight hours of non-stop pouring rain. We were dry as could be. We camp a lot and everyone raves about our tent when they see it. As far as set-up goes, this tent is easier than any I've ever set up. Basically 3 poles and your done. One person can do it in 20 minutes or so but a team of two can have it done it 5 minutes. Its just me and my girlfriend who use it so there is TONS of room. The swinging door is an awesome feature and on nice evenings when you open all the windows and the rain fly is off you get a cool breeze blowing through even on the hottest of nights. As far as water puddling, make sure you pull the rain fly tight. The water is going to run off and pool around the tent but if you've done your job and put camp dry on all of the seams you'll be dry as can be. I highly recommend this tent to anyone looking for a good quality inexpensive large tent. But do yourself a favor, buy a tarp big enough to fit under the tent for floor coverage and use camp dry on the tent. You'll have no problems.

Excellent For The Dollars

Went round and round for a large tent for car camping, you know, when the whole tribe goes.Got out this weekend for the first time with the WeatherMaster 10.1) Setup was easy with one person, pretty windy so the fly was a little bit of a challenge, but doable alone.2) Well made, well designed product. We had three full size men in there, all with oversized cots and all our gear. Pleanty of room.3) Ventilates really well.4. FULL DAY of steady rain on Saturday, found only one leak in a corner, maybe 3 tablespoons of water; didn't have time to get the seams sealed before heading out. Will cover that when I set it up to clean. Did very well though, it was a LOT of rain.Very happy with the purchase.

Big Tent perfect for family camping

After owning a previous tent for over ten years, it was time for a new one. I have skimped on price before but ultimately wound back up with the Coleman line. They just sell great reliable product. I did a lot of research and decided to go with the Coleman WeatherMaster 10 tent. I have two young daughters and my wife, this tent is the perfect size for a long weekend. I set it up by myself in about 20-25 minutes. I recommend getting some help and the time will be cut in half. It was very easy to set up, although the directions sewn inside the bag are a little rough to read. I suggest printing out a copy from Coleman's website and follow them. Definitely set the tent up before you head out to familiarize yourself with it. You will see it is very easy. It is a very large and roomy tent. It only has two spacious rooms, but do you really need more than that?? I have seen other reviews where people had mentioned it looked cheaply constructed. I disagree! The seams are very strong as well as the floor. The tent itself feels like a parachute type material. It feels very resilient to me. . . The one complaint I have which in all reality I guess you can't get away from, is that getting it back into the bag was a chore; I don't think I have ever has a tent go back into its case very easily. I don't understand why they don't make "stuff" tents yet in this day and age. It would be nice to just stuff that sucker right into a bag instead of rolling it up and dealing with the frustration. Anyway, just eye up the bag first and make tight rolls and it will go back in OK. I highly recommend this tent and know you will enjoy it as well.

Great 4 season Tent

I am near the end of my 3rd season using this tent for camping, from the last of September to the beginning of February, each season. This tent may not be the best looking - outside, but inside it is very roomy. I think it has more usable space than the Trek Model 249 Greenbriar 10x20 that I replaced with this tent. The difference being the higher walls. It has 70 square feet less than the 10x20, but all of the space is easily accessed.Let me tell you about strength. I have experienced 55mph sustained winds in this tent. At first I was concerned, because 45mph winds tore up my Greenbrier 10x20, on 3 occasions - with me in it. It was no picknick - I tell you. One incident pulled 20 stakes out of the ground and flipped the tent from end to end, along with everything inside --- including me. Now that was a ride to remember. But that has not come close to happening with this 10x14 tent. It has much stronger poles and strong cotton canvas. It takes a lickin and keeps on tickin - so to speak.As for setup, one person can easily do it. You lay it out on the ground (use a tarp under it). Stake it down. Put the poles in their proper place. Raise the center pole on one side, then raise the one on the other side. Then raise each end, one side at a time. It will not fall over and it will not tear like cheap nylon tents. Order the tent with a Fly cover. The Fly keeps the sun and rain and snow off the roof. That extends the life of the canvas. The fly is a little noisy when it is windy, but it does its job. If you can't sleep, take the fly off.I only have one complaint with this tent. It is built like an A-frame. Heavy rain and snow can build up on the roof - and cause an end of the tent to colaps. I fixed that problem. I added two inside poles that push up the roof so that snow and rain will slide off. There is so much room inside, the poles are not a bother. I put hooks on them, and use them to hang things on. The poles are not normally needed, but when real bad weather hits, they shoare up tent - making it very sturdy. The poles are expandable in length. That lets me adjust them as needed.This tent is a cabin to me. I have a twin size air-bed on each end of the tent. I have a cloths rack, a cooking table, 2 end tables, 2 kitchen chairs, a propane tank and heater. I have a big rug in the center that makes it cozy. There is plenty of room to walk around without bumping your head on the 8 foot ceiling. Yep, 8 foot. 6 people can sit and talk with plenty of room.As for leaking, this tent has a rubberized floor. It is nothing but quality. The seams do not leak - anywhere. The floor stays dry as long as I wipe my feet when I come inside. It is treated for dry-rot, mold, waterproof, and fire resistant.As for warmth, the canvas holds a lot more heat than Nylon, but it is still a tent. A two burner Coleman stove will warm the tent to 65 degrees in about 3 to 5 minutes. That is 65 degrees at table top height. Stand up and get warmer.There are large, zippered, 6 foot windows on the sides and on the back wall. They have no-see-um screen on the outside; so does the A-frame door in the front.The tent poles are adjustable, so that makes it easy to set up on uneven ground.The zippers are all self-repairing. That means you can back them up and fix the problem - if their is a problem.If you want a tent that will hold up to the rain, hold up to the snow, and hold up to the wind, this big 10x14 may be just what you are looking for. It is what I was looking for --- and more.

Good value but a little flimsy

The quality is certainly not the highest. The canvas is bit thin, the plastic floor too. And I'm worried about the zips holding up (the front door is already getting snagged after 10 days use). It's made in China. I wouldn't want to count on it in a tough situation.But for the money, this tent is fair value.And the design is charming, and its a pleasure to be in. Its great for camping out in the front yard or for short trips. The first two reviews posted on for the same tent but smaller (10x12) dimensions seem about right to me.

Great Tent

This tent we set up on April 1 through Oct 31. Its sturdy and its the luxury tent at our camp site. We love the look and its windows. I just need to get another rain fly. Because we have it up for so many months in a row the sun does a number on it but other than that its a great tent. I would recommend it to everyone.

I used a pup tent in the Army from 93-98, when I was in a unit that required us to do so. These tents are awesome. Make sure that your purchase is for 2 shelter halves, you will need both to make 1 tent. For those of you who have never used this style of tent, there are a few key differences that you should take into account before buying one. First---There is no floor. I recommend using a poncho for a make shift floor, before throwing your sleeping bags down. Second---there are no waterproof components, although you can spray waterproofing spray on them, I highly reccomend you dont. The best way to keep your self dry in the evnent of rain is to use a poncho(again), or a tarp as a lean to barrier. You can also pull the tent stakes as far away from the center as possible, creating tension in the canvass, and make sure the poles are pulled tight as well, dig a trench around the tent, and lead it away from the tent. When the water beads up and rolls off the tent it wont saturate the ground around you as much. Third---Although 2 shelter halves aren't heavy, they are heavier than some of the throw and pop up tents out there. This is truly meant for roughing it.

I used these in Basic Training when I enlisted in the Army in 1978. As instructed by our Vietnam veteran DI's (and personally experienced in the forests of Ft. Jackson, South Carolina):1. Start with a clean, dry shelter half2. Make the tent as tight as possible (using 2 shelter halves, of course)3. Have the flaps at the bottom facing OUTSIDE.4. Dig a trench around the tent, shoveling the excavated dirt over the flaps5. On the downslope, leave way for any water in the trench to escape6. Lay down a poncho as a ground cover inside a. If it rains long enough, the ground will start to mud up under your otherwise dry tent7. If in the tent and rain begins - do NOT touch the inside of the tent. a. If you do not touch the inside, a layer will form, and the surface tension will lead the water away from you and your gear, to the base of the tent b. If you touch the inside, it WILL start to leak at the spot where you touched itA super durable and rugged item, but bulky and heavy considering the finished size

I'M IMPRESSED!

This tent was everything i thought it would be and more. Now obviously it comes with two halves that you button together along the "ridge" of the tent. It comes with 10 very good military grade tent stakes (not those cheap L shaped ones you get with nylon tents), and 2 guy lines to string out the ridge poles on both ends. It does not have a bottom so you will need something like a tarp to lay down for the inside..or just rough it. Now i got this just recently and i live in Massachusetts. Our winter hasnt been too snowy this year (for a change) but i set it up last weekend to see how well it would hold up in this past snow storm. It was GREAT! i actually slept out in it during the storm, and it stayed dry inside, the snow insulated the tent and nothing blew in under the flaps because the snow acted as a seal for the bottom. Later the next day the sun was out and started to melt the snow that was on the tent...the OUTSIDE got a little wet but for the most part the water was beading up and just rolling down the sides off the tent which i was impressed with...and the inside remained dry. The set up and tear down of this tent was sooooo much easier than most newer nylon tents. And although it was windy as hell when i set it up..it was still very easy and i did not require any instructions, its THAT simple. I highly recomend this for people with kids.

Great with some modifications !

Alright,So I have always wanted a teepee tent but could not afford one. When I saw this brand new on Ebay for 100.00 bucks free shipping I could not resist it.Okay, So first impressions when I got it setup up and left it out for a couple of days in the backyard to test.1. What the heck is this cord cause it is not paracord2. Craftsmanship and build quality over is pretty good it is mass produced3. Waterproofing was very poor this tipi leaked not bad but leaked everywhere4. The Stakes were your standard stakes5. The Center Pole is sturdy and has a chain going through it to hold it together.So I made the following modifications to the teepee tent.1. Replaced "FAKE Paracord" with good old Made in the US reflective Paracord and foliage.2. Seamed Sealed and Kiwi Camp Dried it top to bottom 2 coats. (Took about 3 cans)The results well lets just say that did the trick so far no more leaks stands up to high winds well.I have had the Tipi tent now for 6 months and am very pleased with the purchase. After putting in some grunt work to fix the above issues and spending around $30.00 dollars for everything.I hope this might help someone that was on the fence about getting one of these.

Good Value - Heavy Weather Design Flaw

We have had this tent for almost a year and used it on four multi-day group campouts in summer, fall and spring.Pro: This 3-season tent has some great advantages: easy set up (one can carry it and if need be raise it alone) huge floor space, good ventilation, comfortable in hot or cool weather, and it stands up to the wind (40-mph gusts) due to the conical shape and clever guy line system. It has proved durable enough for a couple of Webelos dens to use it over a 3-day weekends without showing wear and tear. There is also a clearcut 'cool' factor.Con: While the tent wall and floor have proved to be waterproof and drip free in drizzle and light rain, there is a design flaw in the 2 doors and 4 lower air vents. In two seperate heavy downpours (inch-an-hour thunderstorms with hail), water was able to splash upwards under the closed vent and door flaps and accumulate in 6 individual puddles that had to be sopped up with a towel. These flaps are held shut along the sides by velcro tabs, but do not seal along the bottoms. On the other hand, the bathtub floor worked well in that it allowed no seepage in (or out). Understand that in these cloudburts, only a few tents out of dozens of different sizes and designs had no water in them and some flooded out completely (my old Coleman Montana was bone dry). A minor complaint is that the door zippers are of medium quality and snag often, and the zipper on the storage bag was very poor and broke at first use.Bottom line: Not a bad value for the money. We have graduated it for use as an adult leader headquarters tent. It works great with lots of cots and all sorts of camp furniture, plus you can stand and walk around in it. I would buy it again as a low-cost base camp HQ tent-- just don't sleep on the floor in foul weather.UPDATE March 2013: It is nearly two years later and the tent is still holding up well with only a couple of minor patch repairs. Just recently six Boy Scouts slept in it over a rainy and snowy weekend at Valley Forge, PA, and it held up well to 30-40 MPH wind gusts, heavy rain and slushy snow. The bottom of the door flap still presents a water entry point. The bottom horizontal line of the flap has no zipper to hold it to the bottom of the tent where the floor meets the flap; the flap can ride up and allow rain to run in, instead of off. An old bit of carpet inside the door does the trick of sopping up the water and allowing a place to remove boots. A dozen Boys Scouts with gear can fit in this tent. It has proven to be a good value for the money, allowing for the design flaws. We still use it primarily with cots. The cool factor of it being a big teepee tent remains a plus.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY

I HAD THE UNFORTUNATE EXPERIENCE TO USE THIS TENT ON A FISHING TRIP TO KODIAK, ALASKA. IT LEAKED THROUGH EVERY POSSIBLE LOCATION WHERE THERE WAS A SEW THROUGH TAB, THROUGH THE TENT DOOR, THROUGH THE FLOOR AND THE MOISTURE COLLECTED ON THE INSIDE WALLS. THE ZIPPER WAS MOSTLY USELESS AND HUNG UP ON EVERY PULL. THE STAKES WERE A LAUGH AND PROBABLY COULDN'T BE USED TO HOLD A HOT DOG AT A ROAST. IT DID NOT FIT BACK INTO THE BAG AT THE END OF THE TRIP.I WROTE TO THE COMPANY AND GOT NO RESPONSE NEITHER DID THEY REIMBURSE ME WHEN I SENT THE TENT BACK.

Trek Four Season Tent

In most reviews I read that this tent requires 2 people to set up and takes about 30-35 mins to set up. I have set this tent up twice in the last 2 weeks by myself and have done it in about 25 mins. Last weekend while scouting for elk hunting I had the tent set up at 9500 ft we had a real nasty storm blow in with 40 plus mph winds. It Rained at least 1/2 inch in less than 45 mins. The tent remained dry with no leakage at all. Day time temps average 75 to 80 degrees. with the 2 doors and four large windows we had a great breeze in the tent. Night time temps dropped below freezing at night with a Mr Buddy Tent heater it heated the tent up in a couple mins and actually need to shut it down. Lots of room in the tent to allow you to stand and change. We use this tent for extended trips and actually use futon mattress and have a cot for my daughter. we still have a lot of room to store supplies and move around. This is the closest you can get to a full blown wall tent without spending $1500 plus dollars.

Good Tent so far

I bought this tent on amazon.com and it arrived right on time. The first time i opened the box it was missing one piece, but we were able to fabricate the wrong piece they gave us into the right one. Recently got back from a trip to Valentine Ne. Slept in the tent for 4 nights. It withstood 30 to 35 mph winds without any problem. Tent seems sturdy and holds fairly good heat.

Best decision I made this year!

I bought this truck tent above all the others I had seen or done research on because it looked much more durable than the other flimsy parachute material ones we had seen before. We had planned a week long camping trip to Oregon Coast over the summer and needed extra room for those who couldn't fit into our trailer. We have a 2005 Toyota Tundra with a 6 ft bed. The tent fit PERFECTLY!! It was so easy to put up each night and take down in the morning. Not a lot of extra parts to lose, so it keeps together well. I was so impressed with the way it kept cool inside when it was warm out due to the window vents and strong canvas walls. It withstood strong winds and rain without any issues and was relatively quiet inside as well. My brother who is pretty tall, could stand up comfortably in the middle and we were able to put 2 sleeping cots side by side in the back or just keep one cot and a camping table, lamp and baggage. I loved the fact that it has the same material as the sleeping cot we still own from my uncles time in the Korean war and will withstand the test of time. I expect in a few years with heavy use, we may lose a seam or two, but those are much more easily repaired with any sewing machine, where other tents would be thrown away and replaced. Worth every dime....thanks Kodiak!

GREAT PRODUCT

This is a great product no water and was in a couple of good storms the now floor allows set up without taking everything out of the box of the truck. The no floor did not cause a problem with bugs as fits good and I live in Norther Ontario where in the summer there are bugs everywhere all the time. the canvas holds the heat in great very easy to heat Love this product If it was a little taller it would be perfect But I am 6'3" so I am use to bending my neck in tents It was a little hard to set up the first time but if you read the instructions and soak it down after first time putting it up everything will be a little easier the next and after you get use to it goes up in 10 minutes or lessThrough a army cot in there and a small heater on those cold night and you are comfortable

Kodak tent - quality

It's pretty sweet. Solid construction, a little hard to set up alone, very easy with two. I have an f 150 and when the tailgate is down it pulls the tent back a little so the window to the cab is pulled away further than i like but it's not that big of a deal. Pretty solid though, turns a lot of heads at the campground, oh yeah make sure you have everything you need because you can't drive with it on obviously.

Heavy-duty Canvas Tent

I have been a camping enthusiast since I was a small boy in the 70's setting up my gear in the California Redwoods. The Coleman tent that I used back then was very similar to the Kodiak Flex-Bow, and I actually used my old canvas ten this fall with my son on a Cub Scout camping trip, in North Carolina. My little Coleman tent was about 35 years old, but all of the other scouting parents, with their brightly colored nylon domes, loved the retro design of my old canvas model. Nevertheless, the low ceiling height and thinning plastic floor made me realize that it was probably time to retire "old faithful" for a new one. After hours of research, I found the Kodiak Flex-Bow, which was pretty expensive, but worth the money if it only lasted half as long as my previous tent. When the package arrived on my doorstep, I couldn't believe how heavy and solid it felt. Thank goodness for free super saver shipping! It was surprisingly compact considering its hefty weight. Nevertheless, I easily pitched my new Flex-Bow tent by myself in the back yard for an inspection. I was amazed at the pure quality of my purchase. The canvas was thick and sturdy and the floor amazingly heavy and strong, far exceeding the quality of my original tent. The tall ceiling height allowed me to stand, and the mesh screen windows were very cool. Another thing that amazed me was the superior quality of the poles and stakes. The poles are heavy welded steel and the stakes could probably bore through a concrete slab without bending. If you like quality and durability, this is the mother-load of heavy-duty toughness. As a result, sleeping in this tent gives you a feeling of warmth and security, but you never feel stuffy or claustrophobic like with some light-weight nylon tents. I have no doubt that it will stand up to inclement weather and years of camping adventures, but beware of the weight. This is not a tent for backpackers or for hauling in your gear more than a couple hundred feet, but you will definitely like the design and quality. I now have the 8 x 9 for just me and my son to enjoy, and also bought the 10 x 14, when I can get my wife to come along. Both of them can be pitched alone in about 15 minutes. Happy camping...

Awesome tent

I bought this tent for the wife and I to use when we take our two daughters Girl Scout camping. This is our second tent... the kids use our Big Agnes Big House and we (wife and I) use this one. I went to a girl scout training a couple of weeks ago and broke out this tent for the first time. Set up literally takes about 15 min. It's actually easier to put up then our Big Agnes tent. I did expect the tent to be bigger that it was. I had a XXL Cot, cooler, and chair in the tent and it was perfect... for one person (with a lot of junk).So I was sleeping (or attempting to sleep because it was 100 deg) and wouldn't you know it a giant thunderstorm blew through the area at about 3 AM. It rained like crazy for about 2 hours and the wind was whipping across the lake. I couldn't believe how well the tent performed. It shook and shook but not one drop of water got in the tent and it never buckled bent or even hinted that it was going to collapse. Heck even the awning on the front of it stayed up and that thing was waving around like one of those blow up dancing things I always see infront of stores. In the morning one of the other Dads that was staying in one of the Girl Scout cabins came out to check on me and was amazed that I was able to stay in the tent all night. He said "I expected to hear you run into the cabin last night... that storm was nuts". Heck I loved the storm... it's cooled everything off for a few minutes, well until the humidity went through the roof.Bottom line is that this is a great tent. It's heavy as all hell but well worth it.Pro's: Sturdy, very easy to put up, the poles have steel running through them not cords that break, waterproof, Tall walls (I am 6'3" and could stand up straight with a cowboy hat on inside the tent).Con's: feels small for a 4 person tent. If you use cots or an air mattress in this tent you will not be able to get 4 people in it at all (especially with any gear).If you are looking for a very sturdy base came type tent this is the best I have ever used. I have been "scout" camping (Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts)for going on 30 years and this is far and away the best tent I have ever slept in.

The best tent ever...

I debated spending this much for a tent, especially when comparing it to the Coleman "pop up" tent. The reason I didn't go with the Coleman is simply all the negative reviews it has, especially for leaking. I needed an all-season tent that allows me to set it up by myself, and has enough height that I can comfortably stand up in it. I got my Kodiak 10x10 only 3 days after placing the order. In 10 minutes I had it up. I can't adequately express how impressed I am with the tent. I use it literally 3 nights a week (every week) and have had no problems. It's incredibly well made with double seams, quality cotton canvas and heavy duty zippers. It does not leak at all and is so spacious, I feel like I have my own cabin. The poles are connected together with cable instead of elastic bands, and pop together in seconds. The only poles are the ones on each side and the 2 for the awning. The bow rods ingeniously stabilize the tent so that no other poles are needed. There aren't even guy ropes except for the awning poles. I can take the tent down, roll it up and put it in it's carrying bag in less than 10 minutes. I absolutely love this tent. It is pure quality. The windows have double zippers so you can drop the flaps down as far as you want. All windows and doors have canvas behind netting so you can vent or close to retain heat. The floor is a very thick grade of plastic coated canvas. Keep in mind that this is not a tent designed for back country or hiking. But if you need a "home away from home" like I do, this tent can't be beat.
